"Where the Crawdads Sing" - Delia Owens"Where the Crawdads Sing" - Delia Owens I just finished this novel (about 370 pgs) based on a recommendation from a source that has not yet misled me, and she nailed it. Owens is a best seller of NYT for his non-fiction naturalist and focuses on animals and plants in Africa. This debut novel is impressive, and its knowledge of planting an animal life distinguishes it from most of everything I have read. She paints landscapes in a way I've never seen, and you'll find yourself interested in different kinds of birds like lees. However, history never feels that it needs to rely on that skill, but it uses it to make history prosper. Located in North Carolina in the '50s, this novel is about a young woman named Kya, who is abandoned to live with her alcoholic and abusive father in a hut in a swamp. She learns to defend herself, while most of them are rejected by the nearby city that speaks of her as an urban legend. The novel goes back between Kya learning about life and a murder that shakes the city 20 years later. I can't recommend this novel enough, and I'm excited to know what other readers thought! I read it last week, and I loved it. For me it was one of those magical reading experiences you completely immersed in the world and in the characters... I haven't found it for a while. I'm gonna start your Africa books this week, and I can't wait. I am so shocked that no more people are talking about it!!!! It's absolutely until now my favorite book of 2018. Its image and the way it explains nature and landscapes around is simply beautiful. I fell in love with every character and the plot! What many people said was so cliché and expected and predictable but could not have been the only one who didn't expect it! I think I must be bad at picking up the twists of foreshadowing and plotting in general, because they always seem to blind me. This one definitely did. The descriptions of nature are not for me. The spins were beautiful in that she did a wonderful job of bad direction while maintaining a natural flow. I can't stop recommending this book I'd heard this book was better like an audiobook, so I went to that route, and I really enjoyed it. However, I'm going to say that this was one of the saddest books I have to "read" in a while. I definitely experienced a roller coaster of emotions, but I fell in love with the characters and recommended this book. I'd like to re-examine it as an audio book on the road. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I did the audio book. It was pretty good! I just finished it the other day. I'd seen those positive tests. I wasn't impressed. I wanted to like and respect the narrative ambition but I did not find the particularly convincing story. Me neither! I hated him. I couldn't get into any of the characters and there were too many terrible clichés. The writing in this book irritates me so much, I am enjoying the story and unfortunately I have to keep reading since I paid the $15 for it, and I want to know who killed the child (not spoiling it)This book is so hard to read wise grammar, I understand that it is trying to throw you into the story but there have been so many dialogical phrases that I really could not understand what they said or meant "thenex jump Write with the correct spelling. Does this book also follow and follow descriptions?? I don't need 3 paragraphs to describe 3 things. This is what I've got but it's annoying to try to read The grammar was done that way so a reader could imagine how each character was talking. While Kya could clearly say 'social', Jumpin had a deep accent full of south slang. We also see Kya jump between slavery and the right verbiage when Tate teaches her how to read. All of Mark Twain and William Faulkner to Cormac McCarthy use eye dialect. It was not a whim, it is a grap of Gothic literature from the south/south. Read the way the dialect sounds. I love it personally in a good book. Some of the great American novels use it from the deck to the deck. Read it phonetically and your brain must have the hang. It probably doesn't make it less irritating, but FYI that writing style is called, and in my experience it appears a lot in South fiction. (One of his most famous practitioners was William Faulkner, especially in The Sound and Fury.) I heard the audiobook, which obviously avoided the subject with the spelling, and I loved the story! I'm trying to get into the audiobook and I can't. He's shot and he's on. I wish I could get to the point. Looks like you've never read purple... I just received the notification from my library that this book is available for download. I can't wait to hear it. I've been recommending this book to everyone! That ending.. Lead to the end felt so predictable and generic and then BAM. All right. I'm glad you like it. Do you have a happy ending? I'm halfway and I don't want her whole life to be so tragic. It's got an appropriate end.Movie's in manufacturing! I can't wait. I haven't heard of this. All right. Thanks for the remission... now it's on my library waiting list. I read this during the summer and loved it (I think I read about his release and put my name on the waiting list before my library had it -- he was lucky). It could be my favorite book that I've read in 2018. edit: I know my Book Club will love it, but we have a strict rule on which it is readily available in the library or through the " Club Tricks of our library". We're in NC and I think we'd love to. MembersOnline
